1964 Opened in 1860 the upper station was totally rebuilt by Southern Railways in 1938. The 'new' enclosed concrete footbridge can be seen on August 13th 1964 as S15 4-6-0 No 30833 calls with the 4.35 pm Exeter to Salisbury train. The S&D bay platform is to the right of the photo beyond the benches. |

1968 Just four years later and the transformation is remarkable. The station closed in May 1966, and the line was singled from Wilton in the following April. The concrete bridge has been dismantled and the platform canopies have all but gone. On August 1968 Type 3 no D6573 and 'Warship' No D818 'Glory' double-head the 10:20 Exeter-Waterloo service. |

1987
The station finally re-opened in 1983 after much campaigning by the Templecombe Station Promotion Group (TPSG). With much of the original structure gone the station looks very different. All traces of the S&D lines and platforms have dissappeared. The original signal box remains and doubles as a ticket office and waiting room. Class 50 no 50021 'Rodney' approaches with the 09:38 from Exeter to Waterloo in 1987. |

1996
A waiting shelter was added in 1988 and two years later a proper waiting room was built. That same year a footbridge was also added (behind photographer's position) Now very much a country station Templecombe has totally changed in appearance. On 14th june 1996 'sprinter' no 159014 departs with the 08:35 Waterloo-Exeter St. Davids service. |
