Templecombe Indoor Bowling Club - About The Game

Templecombe Indoor Bowling Club - Home Page

The club was formed in 1990 and after the early days, when all members were learning, has now won honours in all areas of short mat bowling.

The sport is played with normal bowls (The club has sets for beginners), on a mat which is 45 feet long and 6 feet wide.  As in lawn and long mat bowls the object is to bowl the wood (bowl) so that it finishes as near to the jack (a 32oz - 2" diameter ball), as possible.  Beginners will receive tuition from members, among whom are England and County players.  Three familiarisation sessions can be attended before any decision to join the club is taken.  Fees are moderate - £15.00 for adults and £4.00 for U18's annual membership.  There is also a £1.50 (adult) and 50p (U18) charge per playing session.

The club play in three separate leagues - The Blackmore Vale, Mendip and Yeovil leagues.  There are opportunities to play in competitions organised by the County Association and in those held by other clubs and Counties.

The club meets in Templecombe village hall( near the school).  There is, at present, a waiting list for new members, but if you're interested then get in touch with one of the following:

  • Jim Mannell (Club Captain) - (01963) 370772

  • Bill Chaplin (Club Treasurer) - 370546

  • Alan Berry (Former England Player) - 370716
